Every week our team hears a version of the same question from new providers: "When does my salary start?", "How many hours do I have to work?", "Who is my manager?" These are fair questions, and they tell us we have not explained ourselves well enough. So here it is, in plain words: Mindara is not your employer, and joining Mindara is not taking a job. This post explains what we actually are, what we do for you, how the money works, and what we ask of you in return.
The short answer
Mindara is a platform for independent wellness professionals in India. Think of it as three things rolled into one: a directory where people find you, a front desk that books and collects payment for you, and a back office that pays you and keeps the records. You bring your qualifications, your time and your judgement. We bring clients, tools and trust.
You remain an independent professional throughout. You decide what you charge, when you work, which formats you offer and which types of work you take part in. Nobody at Mindara assigns you clients, sets your hours or supervises your sessions. You can pause your profile or leave whenever you like, once any sessions already booked with you are done.
You are not working for Mindara. You are running your own practice on Mindara.
Why the confusion happens
We can see how the mix-up starts. To join, you "apply". We "review" your documents and "approve" you. There is an agreement to accept, and there are "rates". All of that sounds like a hiring process. It is not.
We check registration, identity and qualifications for one reason: the people booking you need to trust that you are who you say you are. A client choosing a psychiatrist online cannot walk into your clinic and see the certificate on the wall, so we look at it for them and show a plain trust label on your listing, for example "Registered practitioner, verified" or "Coach, non-clinical". That check protects clients, and it protects you from being listed next to people who have not been checked. It is a verification step, not a job interview.
Employer or platform? A side-by-side view
| Question | An employer | Mindara |
|---|---|---|
| Who pays you? | The company, as a salary. | Your clients. We collect the payment at booking and pass it on to you, minus our share. |
| Who sets your fee? | The company. | You. You set your own price per format and session length and can change it any time. |
| Who decides when you work? | A roster or a manager. | You. Clients can only book the times you have opened. |
| Who is your boss? | Your manager. | Nobody. We have rules for everyone (below), but no one directs your work. |
| Is income guaranteed? | Yes, a fixed amount. | No. You earn from the sessions clients book with you. |
| Leave, provident fund, benefits? | Provided by the employer. | Not applicable. You are self-employed and handle your own tax and insurance. |
| Who is responsible for the care? | Shared with the employer. | You, as the professional. We are not a clinic and we do not supervise treatment. |
| Can you work elsewhere too? | Usually restricted. | Yes. Your own clinic, other platforms, hospital work: all fine. |
| How do you leave? | Notice period, resignation. | Pause or close your profile. Finish the sessions already booked and you are done. |
What Mindara actually does for you
Here is the list of things you would otherwise have to arrange yourself.
- A place to be found. Your profile appears in search, in matching results and on category pages for therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors, dietitians, nutritionists, coaches, physiotherapists, yoga instructors and fitness trainers. How we rank profiles is published openly at mindara.in/how-we-rank, and any paid placement is labelled "Sponsored".
- Booking and calendar. Clients pick a format and a length you offer, and the slot is blocked on your calendar. Reminders go out automatically. Rescheduling needs both sides to agree.
- Payment collected before the session. A booking is only confirmed once the client has paid, or their employer has already paid for the session. You never chase a client for money.
- Session rooms and chat. Secure video, audio and text-chat sessions, plus an optional 48-hour messaging plan clients can buy.
- Payouts and statements. Your earnings collect in your balance and are paid to your bank account or UPI on a schedule you can see. Every statement itemises exactly what was charged, what we kept, and why.
- Reviews and replies. Verified clients can leave a review. You can reply once to any review, and anyone can report an unfair one.
- Extra ways to work, all optional. Employer-funded sessions, session packs, group sessions, multi-week programmes and workplace events. You opt in only to the ones you want.
- Support. A team that handles client refunds, disputes and technical problems, so you do not have to.
How the money works
The principle is simple: your clients pay for your sessions, Mindara keeps a share for running the platform, and the rest is yours. Employer-funded sessions, session packs and the messaging plan are separate programmes that you can join or leave as you wish, each with its own terms shown before you take part.
We do not print the figures here on purpose. They can change over time, and when they do, you are told and asked to accept the new version before any new work. Your Rates page in the provider dashboard always shows the current rates that apply to you, with worked examples of what you receive, and the rules for a session are fixed at the moment it is booked.
Your earnings collect in your balance and are paid to your bank account or UPI on the schedule you choose. Every statement lists each charge, refund or adjustment as its own line, and you can raise a question about any of them. As a self-employed professional, your own tax remains your responsibility.
What we ask of you
Not being an employer does not mean there are no rules. Clients trust the Mindara name when they book, so every provider agrees to the same standards. They are not long.
- Keep your profile, registration, availability and payout details accurate.
- Work only within your competence and where you are legally allowed to practise.
- Show up on time, deliver the format and length that was booked, and treat clients with respect.
- Protect confidentiality, take informed consent and keep proper notes.
- Clients who found you through Mindara stay booked through Mindara. Moving them off the platform is treated as a serious breach of the agreement.
- Reply to our team within two business days when we need something operational, and quickly when it concerns safety or a payment check.
In return, we commit to showing you every rate before you take part, applying the published rules to everyone in the same way, never changing the figures on a completed session, and answering a formal dispute about a payout, penalty or rate within two business days with a reasoned outcome within ten.
Common questions
Will I get regular clients? We cannot promise a number. Bookings depend on your profile, price, availability, reviews and how many people are looking for your kind of support in your area. The "Grow my profile" page in your account shows you exactly what to fix to be found more often, and most of it is free.
Do I have to accept every booking? Clients can only book slots you have opened, so you control the volume. Once a session is confirmed and paid, though, it is a commitment; cancelling it late has consequences, just as it would in your own clinic.
Can I set different prices for video, phone and in-person? Yes, and different prices for different lengths too, from 15 to 120 minutes.
Who handles a client complaint or refund? Our support team, following the rules that were locked at booking. You will be asked for your side, and you can dispute an outcome.
Do I need to do employer or group work? No. Each of those is a separate opt-in with its own setting. Switching one off stops new bookings of that type but does not cancel anything already confirmed.
What if Mindara changes the rates? Rates and rules are attached to a numbered version of the agreement. If we change something material, a new version is published and you are asked to read and accept it before taking new work. Sessions already booked keep the old rules.
Can I leave? Yes, at any time. Finish the sessions already booked, request your final payout, and close or pause your profile.
